Doosan Infracore China Corporation (DICC) donated 3 million RMB along with 160,000 RMB raised by executives and staff members to the Chinese government to help with the aid programs for Qinghai, a severely earthquake-affected region. DICC also sent excavators and other heavy construction equipment to the recovery sites.
DICC has continuously worked to contribute to society by providing financial and material support to victims of natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods and heavy snow. This commitment by all employees of DICC to make a difference stems from their sense of duty that resonates in DICC’s welfare slogan of “let's make a beautiful and happy China together.”
- Donated 3.16 million RMB and dispatched excavators to the earthquake site
One month before the second anniversary of the Sichuan earthquake, China is once again filled with fear of earthquakes. At 7:49 on the morning of April 14, a violent 7.1-magnitude earthquake hit Yushu in Qinghai’s Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.
As of 8 a.m. on April 19, the death toll has reached 1,944, while 216 are reported missing and 12,135 wounded. The number of casualties is expected to rise, as 1,134 of the 12,135 wounded are in critical conditions.
DICC was the first and most active foreign company in responding to the Sichuan earthquake. Based on such experience, DICC has decided to promptly carry out aid operations in Qinghai.
Agencies and customers close to the damaged areas were first called to help so that as many excavators as possible could be sent to the sites. Doosan HQ has agreed to pay for the 200 million RMB for excavator rent, labor and spare parts costs. DICC also plans to donate 1 million RMB to the victims of the earthquake through the Yantai Economic and Technological Development Zone Management Committee. DICC is located in the Yantai Technological Development Zone.
DICC’s Xi’an Branch delivered an official correspondence to the government agency in charge of the recovery efforts on behalf of Doosan. The correspondence stated that the operating costs for Doosan excavators during the rescue operations will be paid by Doosan and that the funds to support Doosan's rescue operations will be 200 million RMB.
Upon hearing the news of the violent earthquake on the morning of the 14th, the Xi’an Branch collaborated with Qingzàng Hélì, a local agency, to contact customers in the Yushu area who were in possession of Doosan excavators. Because communications were down, every possible means had to be employed to make contact with customers. Once the Chinese government granted the dispatch of Doosan excavators to the recovery sites, the “Doosan One Family Recovery and Rescue Team” was formed and quickly dispatched on the same day.
Landslides and blocked roads made it difficult to reach the sites on the morning of the 15th, but three rescue workers managed to supply 30,000 RMB worth of excavator parts to the damaged areas. Seven Doosan excavators were already carrying out on-site rescue operations.
DICC plans to expand the “Doosan One Family Recovery and Rescue Team” into three teams as quickly as possible so that they may aid the prompt recovery of the damaged areas. The teams are also evaluating the scale of damage and the state of recovery and determining the actual demand, in order to provide additional excavators, wheel loaders and other relief supplies.
Qingzàng Hélì, a local agency, has already prepared 10 excavators and 12,000 RMB worth of parts, tents and foods as relief supplies. Five excavators will leave Xining on the 20th, and around the 23rd or 24th they will join the seven excavators that have already been urgently dispatched to begin recovery operations.
Gansu Doosan, an agency in the Gansu region, is also negotiating with the local government to dispatch 10 excavators, 3 post-sales service staff, 1 post-sales service vehicle and 1 work vehicle, as well as 50,000 RMB worth of machinery parts, tents, food and daily necessities.
DICC formed and immediately deployed a “Doosan One Family Rescue and Recovery Team” in rescue and relief operations in May 2008, following the Sichuan earthquake. At the time, DICC donated a combined total of over 10 million RMB, including parts and fuel costs worth 4 million RMB, and 6 million RMB in cash. They also provided 100,000 articles of winter underwear worth 2.6 million RMB, equivalent to 550 million KRW.
This spring, DICC will commit itself to the recovery operations in the aftermath of the Qinghai earthquake in order to give hope to the local people, who are struggling to recover from the devastation of the disaster.
